Welcome to Hippo Class we are a Foundation Stage Two Class. Our Learning this half term will be based around the topic of 'Myths and Legends'. See below for details on what we are learning in our different curriculum areas . There is a book swap morning, which in Hippo class is on a Thursday morning. You are welcome to come and change your child's book and stay to read for a short time. PE will be on a Wednesday Morning. PE kits will be needed for this. It is important to name all clothing in PE kits. This way we can make sure all items are returned to the correct person
Homework will be based on reading and sound recognition. The work will be sent home on a Friday and will be based on sounds the children will be learning in class. When reading the children will gain stickers and certificates when they have achieved 25 reads at home and every 25 steps thereafter. You can monitor their progress on the poster found in the class window.
In Literacy this half term our special stories are 'The Gruffalo', 'Zog' and 'Room on the Broom'. We will start by describing the Gruffalo to help us make a wanted poster to find the Gruffalo. We will also read recipes and make Gruffalo Crumble. We will have a visitor to our class when reading "Zog" who we will have to look after by asking his Mummy questions about what we feed him and where he lives and we will read her answers. Our final story "Room on the Broom", will see us writing our own version of the story. Finally we are super excited to visit Sherwood Forest to learn about Robin Hood!
In Our Mathematics we take a mastery approach and will continue to learn our numbers by having a number of the week. We really enjoy using Numberblocks to help us learn the number. We count, order, add and subtract using numbers as well as learning about weight, money, 2D and 3D shape. We will use the outside area and our Maths area in the classroom for learning new Maths skills and concepts.
Our focus in Understanding the World will be based around the world where we find out about our immediate environment by visiting Sherwood Forest. We will also understand the environments our story book characters live in. We will use technology to support our learning and learn about Algorithms by programming BeeBots.
In our Creative Development we will be changing our role-play to a Gruffalo Cafe and visit the woods in our outdoor role-play area. We will use and improve the skills of cutting, folding, twisting and stretching materials. We will be following our music scheme Charanga and getting "In the Groove"
Our Jigsaw Theme (PSE/PSHE curriculum) is "Healthy Me " Where we will focus on what keeps us healthy and how we can follow a healthy life style. We always think about our British Values and our focus this half term will be on "Mutual Tolerance " .
