Important information about Hippo Class
Welcome to Hippo Class we are a Foundation Stage Two Class. Our Learning this half term will be based around the topic 'Once Upon a Time'. See below for details on what we are learning in our different curriculum areas . Children will have their books changed once a week. PE will be on a Wednesday Morning. PE kits will be needed for this and currently the children need to come to school in their PE kits. It is important to name all clothing in PE kits. This way we can make sure all items are returned to the correct person
Homework will be based on reading and sound recognition. The work will be sent home on a Friday and will be based on sounds the children will be learning in class. When reading the children will gain stickers and certificates when they have achieved 25 reads at home and every 25 steps thereafter. You can monitor their progress on the poster found in the class window.
In Literacy this half term our special stories are ' Dipal's Diwali' , 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' and 'The Elves and the Shoemaker'. We will also read and Christmas Story. We will be visiting our local woods and write about what we have seen. We will use 'Talk for Writing' to retell the story Goldilock and the Three Bears. We will design and label a pair of shoes for the Elves.
In Our Mathematics we take a mastery approach and learn our numbers by having a number of the week. We really enjoy watching 'Numberblocks' to help us learn the number. We count, order, recognise and form these numbers as well as understanding 'more' and 'less' as a concept using practical methods. We will also be learning how to create repeating patterns and order objects according to size. We use our outside area and maths area in the classroom to encourage independence and enjoyment in learning new maths skills.
Our topic this half term is based around 'our environments' The children will talk about past events in their own life and how they have changed. We will look at how our environment changes as the seasons change. They will also be learning how to stay safe on the internet and exploring Purple Mash on the Chromebooks. We will also explore different materials & their properties
In our Creative Development we encourage the children to improve their creative skills such as cutting, twisting, stretching and folding. We use lots of different media such as paint, chalks and collage. We use role-play areas inside and outside to encourage imagination. We will use and improve the skills of cutting, folding, twisting and stretching materials. We will be following our music scheme Charanga. In the home corner and outdoor role play area the children will be using their imagination and knowledge of traditional tales to act out our special stories. They will be learning how to use clay to create a diva lamp and improving our pencil skills when drawing story characters.
Our Jigsaw Theme (PSE/PSHE curriculum) is "Celebrating Differences " Where we will focus on thinking of our own and other people's feelings. We always think about our British Values and our focus this half term will be on "Respect ".
