Welcome to Hippo Class we are a Foundation Stage Two Class. Our Learning this half term will be based around the topic of 'Around the World in 80 Days'. See below for details on what we are learning in our different curriculum areas . There is a book swap morning, which in Hippo class is on a Thursday morning. You are welcome to come and change your child's book and stay to read for a short time. PE will be on a Wednesday Morning. PE kits will be needed for this. It is important to name all clothing in PE kits. This way we can make sure all items are returned to the correct person
Homework will be based on reading and sound recognition. The work will be sent home on a Friday and will be based on sounds the children will be learning in class. When reading the children will gain stickers and certificates when they have achieved 25 reads at home and every 25 steps thereafter. You can monitor their progress on the poster found in the class window.
In Literacy this half term our special stories are 'We completely must go to London', 'My Granny went to Market' and 'The Great Race'. We will start by looking at and discussing the key sights we might see if we went to London. We will write lists of what we would take on our trip and draw and label maps of our journey. We will then create a leaflet about London. Our learning will then move to other areas of the world where we will follow Granny on her journey around the world. We will retell and sequence the story with a final task of writing our own story. Finally will be learning about Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated. We will read and follow instructions to help us to bake Chinese cakes and practise our letter formation using chopsticks and glitter!
In Our Mathematics we will continue to learn our numbers using Numberblocks to help us as well as learning about weight, money, 2D and 3D shape. We will use the outside area and our Maths area in the classroom for learning new Maths skills and concepts.
Our focus in Understanding the World will be based around the world where we find out about our immediate environment and the world further a-field. We will visit the local library and we will be making Chinese food to celebrate Chinese New Year together.
In our Creative Development we will continue the home corner as role-play and visit London in our outside role-play area. We will use and improve the skills of cutting, folding, twisting and stretching materials.
Our Jigsaw Theme (PSE/PSHE curriculum) is "Dreams and Goals " Where we will focus on our dreams and set ourselves goals to try to meet them. We always think about our British Values and our focus this half term will be on "The Rule of Law " where we will focus on the School Rules and how rules are important for a safe society.
