Important information about Hippo Class

Welcome to Hippo Class we are a Foundation Stage Two Class. Our Learning this half term will be based around the topic  'Food Glorious Food'.   See below for details on what we are learning in our different curriculum areas .   There is a book swap morning, which in Hippo class is on a Thursday morning. You are welcome to come and change your child's book and stay to read for a short time. PE will be on a  Wednesday Morning. PE kits will be needed for this. It is important to name all clothing in PE kits. This way we can make sure all items are returned to the correct person

Homework will be based  on reading and sound recognition. The work will be sent home on a Friday and will be based on sounds the children will be learning in class.  When reading the children will gain stickers and certificates when they have achieved 25 reads at home and every 25 steps thereafter. You can monitor their progress on the poster found in the class window.

Curriculum Information

In Literacy this half term our special stories are ' Chocolate Mousse for Greedy Goose' , 'Kitchen Disco' and 'Daisy Eat your Peas'.  We will start by identifying the sounds and rhyming words in our story 'Chocolate Mousse for Greedy Goose' story. We talk about foods we like and dislike and try some different foods such as fruits and vegetables on our 'Munch and Mingle' table. We will use our phonic knowledge to write lists and label our favourite foods.

In Our Mathematics we take a mastery approach and learn our numbers by having a number of the week. We really enjoy watching  'Numberblocks'  to help us learn the number. We count, order, recognise and form these  numbers as well as understanding 'more' and 'less' as a concept using practical methods.  We use our outside area and maths area in the classroom to encourage independence and enjoyment in learning new maths skills.

Understanding the World

Our topic  this half term is based around 'The body'  learning about the parts of the body and the senses. Our general focus in Understanding the World is based around learning about our immediate environment  and parts of the world. We focus on the globe and the world map encouraging children to find out about the natural and man made world We will use technology to support our learning and will learn how to log onto our Chromebooks. We also use Beebots and iPads to help computing skills. Our main programs we use are 'Purplemash' and 'Education City' both have links at the top of this page.

In our Creative Development we encourage the children to improve their creative skills such as cutting, twisting, stretching and folding. We use lots of different media such as paint, chalks and collage. We use role-play areas inside and outside to encourage imagination. We will use and improve the skills of cutting, folding, twisting and stretching materials. We will be following our music scheme Charanga- Hey You.

Jigsaw (PSE/PSHE) and British Values.

Our Jigsaw Theme (PSE/PSHE curriculum) is "Being Me in My World "  Where we will focus on thinking of our own and other people's feelings.  We always think about our British Values and our focus this half term will be on "Democracy ".
