Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.

The Governing body at John T. Rice Infant and Nursery School work incredibly hard to support and challenge the school's leadership team. This support helped to secure a Good from OFSTED in 2018 and provides a healthy level of challenge to move the school forward.

Mrs Shelley Bennett (Head Teacher)

Mrs Bennett joined the school in April 2018 as the Headteacher and it is her first Headship. She worked as a Deputy Head teacher at Crescent Primary School in Mansfield for 7 years prior to taking up Headship. She is passionate about learning and relishes the opportunity to serve the children, parents and staff at John T. Rice Infant school.  During the weekends and holidays, Mrs Bennett loves walking her chocolate Labradors and spending valuable time with her family. Together with that, her hobbies include collecting pets (much to her husbands dismay!), horse riding, reading and trying to keep fit!

Mrs Amanda Jones (Staff Governor)

Finance and Personnel committee member & Strategic development and Pupil committee member.

Mrs Jones has been a governor for five years and has recently become the staff representative. In school she is a class teacher and the SENDCO having passed her National SEN Award in December 2017. Mrs Jones has taught in many different settings but her passion is for early years teaching and teaching children with additional needs. She firmly believes in the inclusion of all children.

Mrs Jones is married to Paul and has two dogs. In her spare time she loves dog walking, gardening, yoga and Tai Chi.

Mrs Emma Wilson (Parent Governor)

Finance and Personnel committee member & Strategic development and Pupil committee member.

Responsible for Maths development, Head teacher appraisal and SEND/ LAC & Inclusion

I have lived local to John T Rice for as long as I can remember, I have a son in Orangutans class and a daughter who attends Holly Primary. I am a full time working mum within education and have worked as a Teaching Assistant for the last 9 years. I specialise in SEN and have worked with children who have additional needs. I have a keen interest within education and wanted to deepen my knowledge by becoming a parent governor. I believe that children thrive if they feel secure and confident within their learning environment.

Miss Jane Avison (Co-opted Governor)

Finance and Personnel committee member & Strategic development and Pupil committee member.

Responsible for complaints, Finance, Maths development, website compliancy and GDPR

This is my first governorship and I am excited to be part of the team. I have lived local to the school for most of my life and became a governor to learn about a new sector and gain a broader skillset whilst helping out! I am currently a Senior Talent Partner for a large data/information services company in Nottingham, and am excited to bring my HR knowledge and experience to the governing body. Having taken a slightly unorthodox approach to my career I genuinely believe that all children should receive equal opportunities and encouragement to develop no matter what the circumstance, and diversity and inclusion are close to my heart. In my spare time I love the cinema and I plan to travel as much as I can (starting with Paris!) - I also have a cat, a fish and two rabbits who keep me busy...

Miss Ruth Palmer (Local Authority Governor)

Finance and Personnel committee member & Strategic development and Pupil committee member.

Responsibility for safeguarding, writing development & leadership .

Ruth has always had an interest in Education and is a trained teacher. She currently clerks for Governor services and has a background in budgets, buying and selling, as she currently works for Curry's PC World.

 Mrs Claire Densley (Parent Governor)

Finance and Personnel committee member & Strategic development and Pupil committee member.

Responsibility for Health and safety, pupil premium and sports premium.

Claire joined our governing body in the spring term of 2019.  I have lived locally to the school for most of my life and I currently have a 5yr old who attends John T Rice School. I am a full time working mum with my own Ironing Business and I'm also a member of the PTA here at school, helping to raise vital funds for the school etc. I have a keen interest in seeing each & every child getting the best Education that they can.  I love days out with my family and visiting the cinema.
